Joaquin Miller

Joaquin Miller (1837 - 1913)

Joaquin Miller's family was among the early pioneers who settled in Oregon in 1852. When only a boy, he traveled to participate in the California Gold Rush, and spent a good part of his life in California.

Known as "the Poet of the Sierras," he changed his first name from Cincinnatus to Joaquin after the legendary Mexican outlaw Joaquin Murietta. His works include: Song of the Sierras, Life among the Modocs, California's Life of Gold, and Joaquin et al.
