Mark Twain (1835 - 1910) Mark Twain lived in California during the tumultuous era of the California Gold Rush. His works, including his reporting for "The Californian," are well known literary pieces to this day. He became friends with some of the authors listed on the California Writers Week resolution and even wrote a play with Bret Harte. His works include: The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, and Roughing It.
